I am an artist: how can I publish my works?

We have seen that, as an artist, you can publish your works in the specific categories/sections. The publication process is very simple and requires you to send in (an upload) to ARS box the digital files containing the works.

The Free Artist Subscription, allows you to keep your copyright for the works you sent in. The works will remain your exclusive property and you may continue to promote and/or sell them also through other channels.

If you want to make your works available on payment (the other users will therefore be able to buy them at the price that YOU decide), you can do it for Free for both subscriptions. In the case of sales, ARS box will pay you substantial royalties. Consult the Royalties and fees section for more information

If you have published the work as a ‘free work’, the users will be able to download it free of charge. For more information consult the other sections and watch the demo video.

What should I consider when I am uploading works for publication?

To publish a work means to send (upload) it in electronic format (files in .pdf .jpg .mov .dvx ...format) so that it will be immediately available on-line in the website database. When the work or the works are on-line, the users can download them free of charge or on payment. For technical reasons, if you send an image you must send it in a certain format, whereas if you send a text you must send it with different and specific characteristics.
Here are the requirements for material sent in to the website:

Music
The files must be mp3 sampled at 44 KHz. The result, roughly, should be a file of the size of about 1 MB per minute of music.

Cinema
The videos, of all the works hosted by ARS box, are those with the largest size. It is therefore very important that you carefully evaluate the result obtained. Generally, we expect videos with PAL frames and with a compression level equal to 10 MB per minute of video. It is important to have good quality files but they must be ‘lean’ enough for upload and, above all, for download by users. We are also considering a service for users who need help in preparing their works for publication. You can also send us a CD/DVD with your video and we will ‘package’ it for publication on the website. For more information send an e-mail through the Help section.

Comics
Comic strips, like images, can be saved in a number of formats. We have chosen the .pdf format as the main one, because it offers the most realistic effect possible: you can turn the pages, enlarge and, in general, have a more accurate page layout. You can, however, send in your strips in .jpg format. According to the resolution in which you save your comic strips, we expect a page to occupy a few megabytes.

Books and Narrative
The .pdf format is certainly the most suitable for texts. It is recognised as standard and is used by all the popular operating systems. It is possible to set up the works as true virtual books using this format. If you wish to include illustrations with the text, save them in resolution 300dpi (max), so that the result is a file of only a few megabytes and easy to download.

Visual Arts
Images, whether they are photographs or completely digital creations, can be any size, even very large. For publication we advise sending them in a size less than 2000 x 2000 pixels. If you are a painter or a sculptor, you can send in digital photographs of your works and create a sort of "Virtual Gallery".

Can I sell my works after having published them?

Of course! As we already mentioned, ARS box allows you to publish your works on-line and to sell them. Registered users can download these works onto their computers and use/enjoy them for personal purposes.

Therefore, you decide whether to make your works available free of charge (for example for an initial period in order to make your works known) or on payment.

When the work is to be published (before you send in the files, supply all the information required, such as the title of the work, a description and so on), you will be asked if you want to offer the work free of charge or on payment. In the first case the publication procedure will be standard and the work sent in will be freely available for download by registered users.

In the second case you will be asked to set a price for the sale of your work. Also, during the publication procedure, you will be asked to supply this information together with an additional PREVIEW file. The preview is a ‘foretaste’ of the work (a few seconds of a piece of music, a chapter of a book, an image and so on), which can be viewed/downloaded without restraint and free of charge by the users before they proceed with a purchase.

Once they have decided to purchase the work, users can utilise Paypal circuit (using their credit card or a paypal account if available). Consult the Help/Technical Support/Personal Account section for more information.

Finally, some works are subject to specific legal conditions. Before sending in your works you should first consider questions relating to S.I.A.E. and other professional international associations. Consult the Copyright, Royalties and fee section for more information.
